At some point, mid-2017, I'd simply had enough of it. The constant bombardment of political opinions, the wave after wave of knee-jerk, self-righteousness coming from the right and the left and the ever present dread of what our dear Commander-In-Dumbfuck is going to do or say next.
I was starting to get noticeably irritated by it.
I deleted Facebook. That was step one. I told my friends where and how to reach me and just... ploop... pressed deactivate.
Then I googled myself for shits and giggles. And amidst all of the Tetris crap (don't ask), I found certain private information about myself that I wasn't too keen on seeing all laid out like that on one single site, like mylife.com for example. They claim to simply aggregate information that's already out there in the ether, but nobody asked them to do that. I certainly didn't. Plus most of it was horrendously inaccurate.
That was the final straw. The catalyst that would send me down the rabbit hole of trying to find every little piece of information available to me ABOUT me on the internet. Hard to do, because Tetris (don't ask), but I was able to affect my information at least 2 Google search pages deep. A lot of it involved filling out opt out forms. It's worth it. If you don't want to do that though, you can dish out $100+ and a website like DELETEME will do it for you.
I then deleted my full name from most social sites I was still on and deactivated most Google features, before finally (today) deleting Twitter all together. I'll get my movie, tech and motorcycle news elsewhere I think, thank you very much. At least Feedly doesn't have a spring loaded comment section full of rabid good old 'murica boys and hair trigger justice warriors, ready to jump on any scrap of hearsay, without even bothering to wait for any kind of fact based information to come out.
Just a wave of verbal hatefucking sloshing back and forth between scandals, victims, perpetrators and the wrongfully accused, with the victims and the wrongfully accused getting the brunt of the hate somehow.
Seriously... fuck that place and fuck comment sections in general, while we're at it.
Ideally, I'll only have this website, my book on amazon, my goodreads profile, youtube and instagram profiles. And that's it. That's all you need to know about me. Fine... LinkedIn too for some inexplicable reason.
Oh and I have a nice beard going.
